About Find Location from Image

Content updated:

Find Location from Image is a web tool for estimating where a photo was taken using visual clues. Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP image to receive a likely location, coordinates, and an explanation when available.

Who maintains this project?

This project and its public guidance are created and maintained by junwei000 on GitHub. The creator also publishes on X as @aiwei00. These are the official profiles for this project’s creator.

How the finder works

  1. Choose one image up to 10 MB.
  2. Submit it. The server first reads any GPS coordinates stored in the photo; if there are none, a vision AI model (GPT-6 Luna via OpenRouter) estimates the location.
  3. Review the predicted place and visual clues, then compare the coordinates on a map.

This website is an independent project. Visual analysis uses the GPT-6 Luna model on OpenRouter; it is not affiliated with OpenRouter or OpenAI.

What the results mean

Coordinates are predictions, not proof of a photo’s origin. We have not published an independent accuracy benchmark. The Paris, Kyoto, and Santorini examples are prepared demonstrations with illustrative coordinates; they are not live analyses.

The tool uses visual analysis rather than an EXIF GPS reader. It does not verify identities or a person’s current location.
